Hello there

Categories: the green house

This is my first post here, please allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Hubert. I’ve been with the green house for over three years, responsible for online marketing design and web development.

We have worked hard for last couple of years to create an online identity through various channels including our new website, this blog and plenty of videos and presentations. I’ve decided that it’s time for me to grab a seat up front and help Phil with contributing our knowledge and opinions on the environment.

I hope to write articles about things I’m passionate about, which will be technology, design, saving the planet, mixed together and served as a complementary dessert to the great articles (and Tweets!) Philip is cooking for you (I think that he would like my metaphor seeing as he is obsessed with food…).

My first post is related to our latest addition to our green house website – “Our collaborations”.

Over these few years we have come across some very interesting people, who not even are passionate about recycling materials, but also made art of it, literally.

First person, I would like to introduce to you is Nicky Ward who uses mixed recycling materials to create cool collages. She was nice enough to leave a few of her artworks, so if you had a chance to visit our office, you might have had a glimpse of her portfolio. You can find more information on Nicky Ward (including showcase of her artwork) on our website.

To introduce the second artist, Giles Miller, I will quote his official artist statement:

British designer Giles Miller continues to feed the eco-hungry with his innovative cardboard collection.   This ever-expanding and highly original range includes seating, tables, lights, storage pieces and even handbags and laptop cases.   Recently commissioned to create an installation for the Lighthouse Gallery in Glasgow, Giles created a giant hanging lighting sculpture which boasted his classic floral pattern on its glowing surface.   As part of the same installation, Giles created his latest cardboard product, a Chesterfield sofa with a lattice structure and the usual charm combined with its worthy green credentials.

More information about Giles Miller, including a showcase of his artwork, can be found on our website or on the artist website.

Both of these artists, took recycling and brought it to a completely different level, showing that recycling is not only important for our environment, but also can be sexy, useful and interesting way of expressing themselves.

If you heard about some other eco friendly artists out there, please let us know. We will be more than happy to promote them here.

I hope that you have enjoyed my first post, more will follow shortly :)

  1. I really like the layout of the website. It is different, and holds my attention. I am replying to your blog because it sounds like you have something to do with the site being so AWESOME!
