ZERO WASTE to Landfill Launch Day at Carphone Warehouse t/a e2save
Categories: Business, Environment, Food Waste, Mixed Recycling, the green house

The green house has been a awarded a partnership agreement in which to help Carphone Warehouse with their CSR aspiration to become ZERO WASTE to landfill at all of their non-retail sites in the UK.
As a part of this the green house has introduced new recycling services on site at e2save.
- Mixed recycling bins for all dry recyclable material such as card, paper and plastics etc
- Organic recycling bins for the food waste from the site which is sent for anaerobic digestion.
This means that all materials from this site are 100% diverted from landfill.
the green house have also introduced into the building internal recycling bins and have replaced 120 general waste desk bins with new desktop recyclers.
But how do we educate all of the staff in the building to use the correct internal recycling bins and insure that the bins provided to not get contaminated?
Education is one of the most difficult things for businesses to overcome when attempting to improve their CSR credentials – attaining the complete ‘buy-in’ of senior management and the workforce.
What we have implemented at Carphone warehouse is a full education pack. This involves us creating ecoPacks which is a fun but important document informing staff what changes are going to happen in their workplace and how there inputs will help the business become more environmentally friendly. We have thenĀ supplementedĀ this with Handouts, a quiz, recycling posters, meet and greets and a full Launch Day.
On the 4th June two members of our Development Team – Kim and Rebecca – held a ZERO WASTE to Landfill launch day which we had set up at e2save offices in Loughborough.
The purpose of a Launch Day is to be able to speak to staff in the building and get everyone involved in how we are going to get e2save to ZERO WASTE to landfill.
Rebecca said “After lots of questions answered, lots of interest and some fun pictures the desk bins were taken away and replaced with desktop recyclers making sure everyone know what to place in them and most importantly what not to place in them!
The feedback from the launch day was that was fantastic and after 5 hours and sore feet we packed up our stand and headed back to the green house happy the launch is complete and e2save have successfully achieved the transition to becoming a ZERO waste to landfill business.
Thank you to all at e2save for making us feel welcome”

This is great, keep up the good work, fellow eco geeks!
