Something’s Changing. Is it my age or my attitude?

Categories: the green house

More of a thought for the evening than my usual posts…

I was indulged in a familiar Sunday ritual involving (as my Wife would have you understand) far too much Football on the television. The particular game in question involved two of footballs founding members, almighty in Claret and Blue, Aston Villa and Burnley. We won’t talk about the result because, frankly, it still upsets me but during the half-time program, amongst the usual parade of players past, lotteries, tannoy requests and pie-eating (don’t you just love English sports?) something occurred that really pissed me off.

FREE MONEY (Energy Production Required)

Categories: Environment, the green house

On April 1st 2010 the government launches a new scheme called ‘Clean Energy Cashback’. A lot has been written about it but, sadly, the reason for that is because, well, not a lot has been written about it. There are still several ‘i’s’ to dot, ‘t’s’ to cross but I’m sure they will be teased out in the passage of time won’t they Mr.Government?

2010 Wk1

Categories: the green house

I read. A lot. In fact, I probably spend around 20% of my week crawling around the internet from one place to the next – news articles, government announcements, company websites, links, Tweets, blogs, videos and anything in betwixt. Most of it I’ll discard, some I’ll log and store away for another day and some I’ll incorporate into the green house or my own working methods. more

Looking back at 2009

Categories: Business, Fun stuff, the green house

If any of the 10,000 visitors we get to our website each month read this blog the one consistency you should probably find is a searing honesty about how we run our business, what we feel about the way our industry is heading and our thoughts and opinions on each of our roles in getting there. This is as much a strategic decision as much as simply not being able to help ourselves; speaking my mind in particular is something that has won me praise and criticism in almost equal regard but I have certainly derived more benefit from the the praise and even learned from the criticism so I don’t expect to change anytime soon! ;-)

Our 2009 digital Xmas Card

Categories: Fun stuff, the green house

Without sounding like too much of a cliche we don’t like to print things unnecessarily and sending Christmas Cards is surely one of them. According to Wikipedia over 1.9 billion (count em) sent in the US in 2005 alone.

the green house begins work with The Carphone Warehouse

I’m absolutely delighted to announce that as of 1st December 2009 the green house has begun working with retailer The Carphone Warehouse in the UK, starting with the implementation of a ZERO Waste to Landfill system at their Head Office in Acton, London. We have rolled out a complete management system including the operation of daily services, marketing and education and providing business intelligence on performance of the recycling systems.

What does an Environmental Management Company look like in 5 years from now?

Categories: Business, the green house

This is the question I ask myself on a daily basis. I’ve known for some time that being solely focused on waste and recycling is only part of the picture and whilst I will always be thankful for the opportunities I’ve personally had to grow a business off the back of that industry I’m keen to move the green house forwards and into pastures new.
